Use of Edsby to Make Appointments

Dear Parents,

We have had several parents contacting the school indicating that they cannot login to Edsby.  It is most likely that you do not remember your password.  Please hit the Forgot Password button.  This will send a link to your email that will allow you to reset your password.  If after trying this, you still cannot login, please email to ask for help.

Office staff will not be setting up appointments for parents.  Parents must book their own appointments.

If you choose not to set an appointment to pick up your child’s belongings, any items left in the school will be disposed of.

Thank you for your assistance in helping this process run smoothly.

Student Material Retrieval and Return Process

NOTE – This is the same letter that was sent to families by email yesterday.  We want to make sure everyone has received it.  Edsby will open at 4:00 today to book appointments to enter the school.  Remember that you must book multiple timeslots if you have multiple children.

Dear Families,
Re: Student Material Retrieval and Return Process
Students and families may now arrange to safely pick up items they left at school and return items that belong to the YRDSB during the week of June 15th – June 19th. In order to book a time at the school, families will be given instructions to use a familiar tool for our school:  Edsby.

Each student will receive a 15 minute time slot, and will only be permitted entry during this pre-arranged time. Families who are unable to sign up for a scheduled time should email our school email address and school office staff will help.

Our dates for student retrieval are Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16.
Safety protocols will be in place as you enter school building, and will include:
● practice social distancing by staying two metres apart from anyone not from your household;

● wear a mask (if you choose);

● use hand sanitizer as you enter and exit the building (Any one wearing gloves upon arrival will be asked to remove and discard them. Applying hand sanitizer to gloves is not considered an acceptable way of cleaning hands.);

● use the designated entry/exit doors only;

● expect that retrieval/return time slots will be 15 MINUTES ONLY
You are encouraged to wear a personal face covering (non-medical mask such as a cloth mask or bandana) to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets to protect others. For more information about how to use face coverings properly, visit Masks and gloves will not be provided.

If you are currently using a board-issued laptop and you are returning to a YRDSB school in the fall, please keep your laptop for use over the summer. If you are not returning to a YRDSB school in September, you must return all YRDSB technology (e.g., laptop, chromebook, etc.).

All students are expected to return the following items which belong to the school:
● School library books ● Teacher classroom library books ● Classroom supplies ● Musical instruments that belong to the school ● Textbooks● Athletic uniforms and equipment ● Anything else that is property of the YRDSB

Guidelines for Visit

● Visits to the school must be conducted within the Public Health Guidelines. Physical distancing, single entry point and hand sanitization are expected to be strictly adhered to by anyone entering our buildings. Further, a self-screening must be conducted prior to entering the building.

● Elementary school students, a parent/guardian is to retrieve materials with your child (grade 7s and 8s may attend alone)

● Ensure you know your child’s homeroom, teacher’s name and/or locker number/combination

● No additional family members, particularly children, will be allowed to enter the building during the assigned time slot.

● No access to washrooms or drinking fountains.

● If your child has medication at the school, it will be bagged, labeled and available for pick up as you enter the building.

● Desks, lockers and any other individual spaces must be cleared out, as all remaining items will be discarded. Lockers should be left open, and school locks may remain

● Family members/students will drop off any items that belong to the school in their homeroom class. There will be no walking to other rooms.
Our ultimate goal is to provide a safe and supportive process to allow for the retrieval of materials and return of school property. We know this has been a most challenging year, and we thank you for your cooperation as we facilitate a safe and organized process.

New Registrations for the 2020-2021 School Year

Kindergarten Registration

While schools may not be open, families can still register for Kindergarten. Our school, along with all elementary schools in the Board, is now offering online registration. Families can access the online Kindergarten registration information at

Please note: A laptop or desktop computer is strongly recommended to complete the online registration, rather than a mobile device.

Alternatively, families can also complete the elementary school registration form and email it directly to the school. Once schools re-open, families will need to bring in their documents (e.g., birth certificates) for verification.

School Registration (Grades 1-12)

Families new to York Region District School Board registering a student in Grades 1-12 can submit the registration forms via email.

1. If you are required to register through the Reception Centre, please send a completed elementary school registration form to Families can contact the Reception Centre directly with questions or if additional support is required.

2. Families who do not need to register through the Reception Centre can send a completed elementary school registration form to their school email address. Use the school locator tool to identify your home school. School email addresses are available on the school websites.

We look forward to welcoming our new students and families to our school. Families are welcome to send questions regarding registration to the school’s email address:

Wilshire Announcements for the Week of June 8

Hello Wilshire Families,

The end of the school year is always a busy time.  Even though we are learning and working from home, that continues to be the case this year.  Please read carefully to let you know about some upcoming events.

  • You will be receiving an email today with important information about retrieving student belongings from the school, and returning belongings to the school.  The dates for parents and students to enter Wilshire will be Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16.  Please read the email very carefully.  You will need to make an appointment for each child in your family to retrieve their belongings from the classroom.  Only one parent and child can enter the school per timeslot.  Edsby will open at 4:00 on Tuesday, June 9 for parents to book timeslots.

  • This Friday is “Cool Hats and Sunglasses” Spirit Day.  Show off your style by decorating a hat or sunglasses to really express yourself.  Maybe you can show off your creativity by making your own!  Email a photo of yourself to to share your cool summer style!

  • Congratulations to Dahlia and Andrew R. who won our Wilshire Staff Baby Photo contest.  They were able to guess 15 of the photos correctly.  Wow!!  You can now check your guesses and see all of the staff names with the photos by going to the album at:  Wilshire Baby Photo Game

  • This week is Mr. Baldesarra’s last week at Wilshire.  We want to thank him very much for all of his work with the various classes he supported this year.  He will be missed!  However, we are welcoming back Ms. Stephanie Tan from her maternity leave.  Ms. Tan will be taking over Mr. Baldesarra’s teaching responsibilities for the rest of this school year.

Stay tuned for more announcements later this week!

Teacher Retirements

I wish to announce the impending retirements of two of Wilshire’s beloved teachers, Mrs. Deborah Fisher and Mrs. Essie Hersh.  Both of these outstanding teachers will be ending their careers this June after many years of service to Wilshire students.  We wish Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Hersh all the best in their retirements and thank them for all they have done to support the students of Wilshire.

As these are unusual circumstances, we would like to give the Wilshire community a chance to share their messages of appreciation and goodwill with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Hersh electronically.  If you would like to write a message, create a video or send a photo, we have created two electronic folders in Google Drive to share with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Hersh.

An instruction video for how to share your files can be found here:

And the link for the two folders is found here:

You must be logged into Google as a YRDSB student to access these links.

We hope you will take the time to send your best wishes and messages of appreciation to our two retirees.  They would love to hear from students, past and present.

Thank you for your support!
