Reminder: Autumn Spirit Day!

Tomorrow, Friday, October 29th is our Autumn Spirit Day.  Students are invited to dress in Autumn colours or a costume.

As you begin to plan your children’s outfit or costume, please remember:

  • Costumes should be respectful of others; symbols or objects representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, should not be worn as another person’s costume, nor should costumes that caricature social identities through stereotyping.
  • Children are not permitted to wear full costume masks, full face make-up, have accessories or bring in weapons or toy/replica weapons as part of their costume, as per the York Region District School Board’s  Policy, #668 Caring and Supportive Schools
  • In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, it is important that costumes do not trivialize and devalue the lives of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
  • Please be sure your child is independently able to remove their costume, should they be uncomfortable.
  • Grade 1 – 8 students must wear their face mask and Kindergarten are recommended to wear a face mask.
  • As part of our Healthy Schools initiative and COVID-19 Health & Safety protocols, please do not send in candy or “treats” for students.
