Hello Wilshire Families,
We have reached the final week of the 2019-2020 school year. It has certainly been one for the books! Our distance learning will continue to run until the end of this week, with teachers providing activities that will be focussing more on the social and well-being needs of students than academics. We know this has been a very challenging year for your children and we hope that the summer months will be able to offer them the opportunity for some safe fun and social interactions before the new school year begins in September.
The Minister of Education has announced that all schools in Ontario will begin in September with a hybrid model of in-class and online learning, with no more than 15 children in a classroom. Our school board will be developing a plan for what this will look like at Wilshire and other YRDSB schools. You will receive more information about this later in the summer.
You should have received an email from YRDSB about the delivery of electronic report cards. You will receive an email when your child’s report card is ready with instructions for how to access the report card electronically. You should receive this by June 26. You will see that some of the marks on the report card will be “I”. This indicates that there was not enough evidence gathered in Term 2 before the school closure to give a fair and valid evaluation of the student’s performance in that subject. Our teachers have done their best to give fair marks and constructive comments for most subjects, despite the limitations of the school closure.
Messages for our Retirees
As we announced a couple weeks ago, both Mrs. Hersh and Mrs. Fisher are retiring at the end of June. We would like to give the Wilshire community a chance to share their messages of appreciation and goodwill with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Hersh electronically. If you would like to write a message, create a video or send a photo, we have created two electronic folders in Google Drive to share with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Hersh. An instruction video for how to share your files can be found here:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cBM7FoskyFCPk-5dHy8lrq1pXztxIR1O
And the link for the two folders is found here:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lwtn70lRuJW9bcnym7OPr-79W7hyrjCY
You must be logged into Google as a YRDSB student to access these links. We hope you will take the time to send your best wishes and messages of appreciation to our two retirees. They would love to hear from students, past and present.
We are so proud of all of our students’ accomplishments as they navigated their way through online learning. As you head into summertime, we recognize that it will likely look a little different this year. As students will not have access to their Google classrooms, we wanted to provide you with a resource that offers opportunities for kids and families to keep reading!
Summer reading is definitely the time to embrace the love and inherent joy we can all experience from reading. Read anything and everything you can! We hope this resource will assist you in that.
All are free and accessible to all. We hope you utilize them. Please note that you will still be required to be signed into a YRDSB GAPPS account to access this document as well as our virtual library.
Best wishes to everyone as we begin our last week of the school year!
