January Events

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a safe, fun, and relaxing holiday break.  Our students and teachers are back into the groove of school as we are nearing the end of our first term.  While we have been lucky to have had fairly mild weather, we know the cold weather and snow are coming.  Please make sure that your children come to school dressed appropriately for winter weather.  Students are expected to be outside for the full 20 minute morning recess and 40 minute lunch recess, regardless of the weather conditions.  Only in extreme cold or wind chill conditions will we implement our indoor recess routines.  Please also remember that there is no supervision for students before 8:40 in the morning.  Unless students have a pre-arranged extra help session with a teacher or are attending a teacher-supervised sport or club, they will not be permitted in the school before the start of classes in the morning.

Upcoming Dates:

January 10 at 7:00 – School Council Meeting.  All interested parents are welcome to join.  The main topic of discussion will be the upcoming Valentine’s Dance-a-thon fundraiser for classroom technology.

January 17 at 6:30 – Grade 7 and 8 parents are invited to an information session with Ms. Sheri Epstein, the Principal of Westmount S.S.  Ms. Epstein will answer any questions parents may have about preparation for secondary school, course selection, student activities, etc.

January 18 – P.A. Day.  There will be no school for students on this day. Staff will be involved in assessment and report card completion activities.

February 1 – P.A. Day.  There will be no school for students on this day.  Staff will be involved in activities related to Indigenous Education and Equity Training.

We wish everyone all of the best for 2019 and look forward to a productive year together as partners in your children’s education!
