Summer Opportunities for Wilshire E.S. Intermediate Students

Once again this summer, the York Region District School Board is offering a summer school program for students currently in grades 7 and 8.  Offerings include grade 7 and 8 reinforcement programs in literacy and math, as well as grade 7 and 8 reinforcement programs in literacy and math for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and for English Language Learners. Under the YRDSB Summer Learning Strategy, this program is designed to provide students with a dynamic and engaging learning experience. Through an Arts integrated, inquiry based model, students will be given an opportunity to develop their literacy and math skills.

For Wilshire E.S. students, these reinforcement programs will be offered at Emily Carr S.S.  More details can be found here.  Registration for these reinforcement programs is done online through Career Cruising, and instructions are available here.

As well, the York Region District School Board is offering a unique program for students currently in grade 8 to transition to secondary school.  This program is a high school credit course titled, ‘Discovering the Workplace’ (course code GLD20), and focuses on present and future opportunities in the workplace and careers.  It is designed to reinforce literacy and numeracy skills with a link to trades and technology.  Though registration for this program is NOT regularly open to Wilshire E.S. students, if space permits, registrations from Wilshire E.S. will be considered.  More details can be found here.  Registration for this course is done online through Career Cruising, and instructions are available here.

If you are considering any of these programs, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.
